“Because of their elegant style and profound meaning, they also possess great educational value, clearly showing the retribution of good and evil. They guide people to uphold justice, practice propriety, value loyalty and kindness, and pursue all that is beneficial to humanity.”
Mei Yisheng · "Interesting Tales of Overseas Nations"
Scripture
Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Reflection
Mei Yisheng translated Shakespeare's stories into Chinese not merely for amusement, but because he valued their edifying power to "uphold justice, practice propriety, and value loyalty and kindness." He believed that good writing can quietly plant truth in human hearts. This echoes the reminder in Micah: what God values is not external sacrifices, but acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with Him. Are my words, writings, and work also communicating such values? Even in the most ordinary things, we can become a testimony of walking with God.
