Daily Devotion
“She left behind no grand theological treatises in her lifetime, yet with her very life she wrote a most powerful, wordless letter: breaking racial segregation through sacrifice, witnessing to grace through suffering, and embodying 'there is no fear in love' through her faithfulness unto death.”
Anna Zheng · Anna Zheng Gospel Association
Scripture
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
Reflection
True faith is not an esoteric theory, but a life lived out. In the face of worldly prejudice and suffering, Anna Zheng did not choose to shrink back. Instead, with a lifetime of faithfulness, she engraved 'a letter from Christ' upon a foreign land. We often shrink back because we fear loss or fear being misunderstood, but God's 'perfect love' gives us the courage to break through fear. Today, may we not merely be preachers of truth, but rather, in genuine love and sacrifice, write our own chapters of faith through our actions.
