Daily Devotion

“Ancient Chinese people viewed the human body as a microcosm, emphasizing the unity of heaven and humanity and the harmony of yin and yang; while our beliefs tell us that the human body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. At their deepest level, these two are interconnected—health is not only the absence of physical disease, but also the complete harmony of the soul with the divine order.”

Edward Hicks Hume · Taoist Medicine: The Chinese Approach to Medicine

Scripture

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, in whom dwells the Holy Spirit, the gift of God? You no longer belong to yourselves, for you were bought by God at a price. Therefore glorify Him with your bodies.

Reflection

Traditional Chinese medicine views the human body as a "microcosm" connecting heaven and earth, pursuing the unity of humanity and nature; while the Bible goes a step further, revealing that our body is "the temple of the Holy Spirit." This reminds me that health is not merely the absence of physical illness, but rather the complete harmony of spirit, soul, and body within a sacred order. Practicing medicine and living life are both spiritual commitments, and I should care for this temple of God with reverence and humility, allowing life to manifest the glory and harmony of the Kingdom of Heaven from within.
