Daily Devotion

“When we began this work, we had neither vast sums of money nor the support of power, only simple trust in God's promises. Look at today: hundreds of schools have been established, and tens of thousands of people are able to read. This proves once again that when people are willing to offer their meager five loaves and two fish, God Himself will perform the miracle of feeding them.”

Samuel Pollard · A Tightly Tied Bow

Scripture

John 6:9-11 “Here is a little boy who has brought five barley loaves and two fish. But this is hardly enough for so many people.” Jesus said to him, “Have everyone sit down.” There was a lot of grass in the place, so the crowd sat down. There were about five thousand men there at that time. After Jesus had given thanks, he distributed the bread to those who were sitting. In the same way he distributed the fish, and they were free to eat.

Reflection

Faced with thousands of hungry souls, the disciples looked at the meager "five loaves and two fish" in their hands, their eyes filled with only helplessness and despair: "What is this?" We often fall into the same sense of scarcity when facing unknown challenges, studies, or massive ministries. But the logic of faith never looks at the absolute quantity of resources, but at whose hands they are entrusted. As long as one is willing to give everything, the Lord will bless and break it, and the wilderness will become abundant.
