Daily Devotion
“People know that self-cultivation can lead to family harmony, but they do not know that the essence of self-cultivation lies in rectifying the heart, and the source of rectifying the heart lies in reverence for Heaven. If the commandments of the true God do not reside in one's heart, then moral discourse will ultimately become empty rhetoric.”
Alexander Williamson · Exploring the Origins of Things
Scripture
Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who do his commands are wise. Praise be to the Lord forever!
Reflection
William Wellsson's insight echoes the Psalms: all outward cultivation, devoid of inner reverence for God, is like a tree without roots. We often strive to hone our interpersonal skills and cultivate our family image, easily neglecting the source of our hearts. True wisdom is not worldly sophistication, but recognizing the duty of our created being. When we inscribe God's commandments on our hearts, morality ceases to be a heavy shackle or a hypocritical adornment, but rather the natural fragrance of life. Only by being rooted in reverence can self-cultivation truly touch the soul, allowing us to live freely and securely in truth.
