“Founding schools and establishing churches are equally sacred works. We not only want to save people's souls from sin, but also to enlighten their minds through the light of truth and knowledge, so that they can become pillars of the nation in this era of great change, faithful to God and truly serving their country and fellow citizens.”
Hunter Corbett · Letter from Yantai Yiwen Commercial College to Tong Gong on its founding philosophy
Scripture
Luke 2:52 Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
Reflection
Pastor Guo Xiande's vision for education profoundly aligns with the perfect life paradigm of "whole-person growth" embodied in Jesus Christ. The true gospel not only saves souls but also enlightens minds through the light of truth. In a time of dramatic change, education and faith are not contradictory but rather complementary sacred works. We cannot be Christians isolated from the world; we should progress in wisdom, stature, spiritual life, and social service in tandem. Only through the renewal and transformation of our minds, possessing genuine knowledge and skills, and simultaneously cultivating a life character that loves God and neighbor, can we truly become pillars of the nation, faithful to God and earnestly serving our fellow citizens in our respective fields of expertise.
