Daily Devotion

“On the path of following Christ, the most dangerous trap is falling into the Phariseeian pride of criticizing and belittling others while pursuing a holy life. You don't need to deliberately flaunt your piety; you only need to strive to love and obey the Lord more, and His holy and loving life will naturally flow through you.”

Calvin Wilson Mateer · Forty-Five Years in Shandong

Scripture

Matthew 7:1-2 "Do not judge others, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

Reflection

Jesus, through the vivid parable of the "thorn and the plank," shattered our self-righteous arrogance. Often, under the guise of pursuing holiness and defending truth, we focus only on the weaknesses and shortcomings of others, becoming cold-hearted Pharisees. Little do we know that the plank in our own eyes has already obscured kindness and love. True spiritual maturity is not about having a more acute ability to find fault, but about having a deeper self-examination and repentance. Lord, enlighten me, help me to withdraw my gaze from judging others, and first turn my gaze before the Lord toward my own life, using Christ's mercy to embrace and support the brothers and sisters around me.
