“I am increasingly convinced that if we are not experiencing revival in mission fields or anywhere else, it is not because God is unwilling to grant revival, but because we are not yet prepared to pay the necessary price—a thorough, uncompromising confession and complete surrender to the sovereignty of the Holy Spirit.”
Jonathan Goforth · Trust in the Lord's Promises
Scripture
2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land.”
Reflection
Jonathan's insight helps us see that spiritual desolation often stems not from God withdrawing His grace, but from our clinging to our own sovereignty. The "price" of revival may sound heavy, but it is the only path to freedom. When we try to substitute the Holy Spirit for busyness and talent, we miss the earthly paradise. Referring to 2 Chronicles, true humility is not merely bowing one's head in words, but also turning away from evil deeds in action. Are we prepared to tear apart our hearts—not just our clothes—to dismantle the wall built of hidden sin, allowing the fountain of God's healing to flow again?
