Daily Devotion

“We should make this clear to believers from the very beginning of our missionary work: every believer is a messenger of God's Kingdom. The goal of missionaries should not be to build a "greenhouse plant" that is forever dependent on the mother church, but to cultivate a towering tree that can take root in the local soil and stand alone in the local climate.”

John Livingstone Nevius · The Evolution of Missionary Methods

Scripture

2 Timothy 2:2 You also entrust what you have heard me teach in the presence of many witnesses to faithful people who will be able to teach others.

Reflection

Paul didn't want Timothy to be an appendage in his shadow, but rather a transmitter of truth. Nivis reminds us that true spiritual growth isn't about seeking comfort in a "greenhouse," but about taking root in the soil of life. We often mistakenly believe that faith is a passive reception, forgetting that "receiving" is for "commitment." Every believer should be a messenger of God's kingdom, not a spiritual infant dependent on others for life. If our faith cannot be transformed into the power to teach and serve others, our life has not yet truly matured. Today, reflect: Am I relying on the support of others, or am I prepared to nurture the next faithful person?
