Daily Devotion

“If Christians could see with their own eyes the thousands upon thousands of souls heading toward destruction, they would never hesitate to go on missions again; for we are not only recipients of salvation, but also transmitters of light, and to hide it away would be to fail the Lord who called us.”

David Abeel · The Biography of Bridgman

Scripture

Matthew 5:15-16 "Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

Reflection

Salvation is not a privately held "treasure," but a "torch" that must be passed on. Elijah Bridgman reminds us that indifference often stems from spiritual blindness. When we are engrossed in the struggle for our own comfort, we fail to see the thirst of countless souls outside our door. We must reflect: have we let shame or busyness obscure the light of our lives? True disciples are not only recipients of grace but also practitioners of the mission. Only by placing the lamp on its stand to illuminate the darkness of others can we live up to the divine grace that has called us.
