Daily Devotion
“I was sent to China not to spread Western science or politics, though those could be very beneficial. My sole, primary, and unwavering mission is to proclaim the crucified and resurrected Christ. There is salvation in no one else.”
Morrison · Morrison's Memoirs
Scripture
Acts 4:12 "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."
Reflection
Morrison's declaration reminds us that amidst the complexities of worldly achievements, we must distinguish between "means" and "ends." Science, education, or social status are certainly beneficial, but they are merely bridges to the heart and to improving the environment, not the source of salvation. Living abroad and facing powerful cultural barriers, Morrison did not choose to "dilute" his faith to cater to the masses, but instead clung tightly to the "one, primary, and unshakeable" Christ. Reflecting on our lives, do we often mistake certain favorable conditions or personal talents for a guarantee of life? The uniqueness of Acts 4:12 requires us to remove all "substitutes" from our hearts. True salvation and peace do not lie in how much earthly resources we possess, but in whether we completely surrender to the name of the resurrected Christ.
