Daily Devotion

“The price of obedience may be heavy, but compared to the spiritual desolation brought about by disobedience, it is actually insignificant. What we should fear is not the hardships of following the Lord, but the loss of the glory of His presence in comfort.”

V. Raymond Edman · However, they obtained it.

Scripture

Hebrews 10:35-36 Therefore do not throw away your confidence, for it will be greatly rewarded. Be patient, so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what has been promised.

Reflection

Even if obedience to the calling is arduous, it is better than experiencing spiritual desolation in comfort. The real crisis is not a lack of resources, but losing the glory of the Lord out of fear of the consequences. Hebrews reminds us to have a “courageous heart,” a courage not based on self-confidence, but on unwavering faith in God’s promises. We must patiently fulfill God’s will. Do not focus on the “heavy” tasks at hand, but on the “great reward.” In obedience, we preserve the spirituality of our group from thirst; in perseverance, we receive the eternal promises.
