Daily Devotion

“Don't just care about whether your children are successful; care more about whether they are holy. Success may only last a lifetime, but a relationship with God and a Christian character will last forever.”

J.C. Ryle · Parents' Responsibility

Scripture

1 Timothy 4:8 Physical training is of little value, but godliness is of all value, with promises for both the present life and the life to come.

Reflection

Today's piano performance is the result of the children's diligent practice. As the scriptures say, such practice is indeed beneficial, honing both skill and will. However, Bishop Lyell's reminder brings us back to a calmer perspective amidst the cheers: artistic achievement without the support of a holy soul is merely fleeting brilliance. As parents, we often plan for our children's "this life," refining their talents, but easily neglect the pious education that concerns their "afterlife." True success is not the dazzling brilliance on stage, but the ability to maintain Christian character even in solitude. Let us reflect: in our pursuit of excellence, have we placed our "relationship with God" above "worldly achievements"?
