“Rest is not merely about not working; it is about faith. When you are able to rest, you are proving to your own soul that your worth does not depend on your performance or the opinions of others, but on God's love.”
Timothy Keller · The Meaning of Work
Scripture
Hebrews 4:9-10 So then another Sabbath rest is reserved for the people of God. For whoever enters into rest has rested from his own work, just as God rested from his work.
Reflection
True rest is "taking a break from your work," which doesn't mean abandoning your responsibilities, but rather ceasing the spiritual anxiety of "having to prove yourself." We need to reflect: Am I still psychologically a slave, sacrificing my physical well-being for a sense of control? True faith lies in acknowledging that even if I stop, God is still in control. Only by laying down the burden of "performance" in love can my efforts cease to stem from fear and begin with joy.
