Daily Devotion

“Where children go does not depend entirely on the path we pave for them, but on whether they see in their homes that their parents themselves are humbly following God.”

Augustine · Confessions

Scripture

Deuteronomy 6:6–7 These commands I give you today shall be on your hearts, and you shall diligently teach them to your children. You shall talk about them whether you are sitting at home, walking by the road, lying down, or getting up.

Reflection

Deuteronomy reminds me that the starting point for raising children is not the methods, but whether my heart is first guided by God's word. What children truly learn is often not what I deliberately teach them, but the object of my reliance in life. Sitting, walking, lying down, and getting up—if faith is merely words, it is difficult to take root; only when I truly live in God's word can children see the direction of following God in their daily lives.
