Daily Devotion

“Intercessory prayer is not about bringing your own desires before God, but about allowing God's will to enter the lives of others through you. At first, you may feel weak, distracted, or even impatient, but as you continue to stand with others where they are broken, you will find that it is often the person who is interceding who is truly changed.”

Oswald Chambers · Devotion to the Lord

Scripture

Romans 8:26–27 Likewise the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches the hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, for the Spirit intercedes for God’s people according to the will of God.

Reflection

We often think that prayer is about speaking clearly and stating our needs completely, but Paul reminds us that true prayer often occurs in moments when we "don't know how to pray." When I feel weak, distracted, or even speechless, it doesn't mean my prayer has failed; rather, it may be precisely where the Holy Spirit begins to work. Intercessory prayer is not about persisting based on emotions or ability, but about learning to step back and allow the Holy Spirit to groan in our brokenness and silence, according to God's will.
