Daily Devotion
“God's calling is often not about climbing upwards, but about going downwards—towards humility, service, and the cross. When we are willing to be brought into humility, we draw closer to God's heart.”
Henry Nuwin · The Journey Downward
Scripture
Philippians 2:5–8 Let this mind be in you the same one that was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!
Reflection
Christ's way is not about striving for status, but about descending into humility and service. Nuwen reminded me that true spiritual maturity is not about outward success, but about being willing to be led by God among people, among the weak, and among those in need. When I am willing to let go of my pride, my desire to prove myself, and my attachment to self-worth, I draw closer to the heart of Christ. Descending is not failure, but the beginning of a life being reshaped and becoming more like Jesus.
