“We must always remember that Satan always disguises himself as an angel of light. Everything he presents seems reasonable... He offers what appears to be a wise path, a gentle path, a path of compromise and ease.”
Fulton J. Sheehan · Communism and the Conscience of the West
Scripture
2 Corinthians 11:14 This is not surprising, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Reflection
Paul reminds us that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light; Fulton Sheen also said that the devil often tempts people with seemingly reasonable, gentle, and compromising methods. This reminder today serves as a wake-up call: temptation is not always obvious evil; sometimes it's a path that seems "more comfortable," "smarter," or "more flexible." Sometimes what I think is wisdom is actually laziness; what I think is self-care is actually an escape from the cross. True light is not the light that caters to the flesh, but the light that points to obedience to Christ. May I learn to discern, not be led astray by "gentle darkness," but persevere in walking in true light and truth.
