“Christians need a grateful heart, a repentant heart, humility, and a true understanding of history.”

Gladys Aylward · The Long March of the Chinese Church

Scripture

Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Reflection

Having spent fifty years in China, Eric Lees witnessed the church grow strong through persecution. He reminds us that what Christians need is not more methods, but a grateful heart, a repentant heart, humility, and an understanding of history. Micah long ago declared what God requires of us: to do justice, to love kindness, to walk humbly with Him. Looking back at history, we see that God's hand has never left us; bowing down in confession, our hearts are cleansed; remaining constantly grateful, we are kept from pride in times of prosperity and despair in times of adversity.
