“Our primary work as messengers of God is intercession; through it, we gain His presence and power to go with us.”

Andrew Murray · The Ministry of Intercession

Scripture

Colossians 4:3: Pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ...

Reflection

Andrew Murray reminds us that the primary work of God's messengers is intercession, through which we experience His presence and power accompanying us. For the sisters of the Lydia Prayer Group, God has answered their prayers, growing them from just a few to six today. Prayer is not a supporting role in missions; it is the hands that lift up the missionaries. If today I feel that prayer yields no visible results and doesn't count as "real work," I might first ask myself: Have I treated intercession as my primary task, or merely as an afterthought?
