Daily Devotion

“When Christ's love truly captures your heart, all the riches and status the world can offer will instantly fade and become insignificant before His glorious face.”

Cecil Henry Polhill · Two Young Guards

Scripture

Philippians 3:7-8 But whatever I considered gain to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. Moreover, I consider everything loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have lost all things; I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.

Reflection

When Bao Yaoting relinquished the glory and comforts of his aristocratic military post, willingly venturing into the Sichuan-Tibet frontier, he answered the question of the price and value of knowing Christ with his life. Paul, in Philippians, said that regarding all things as loss and rubbish is not a forced abandonment, but rather, when the soul is drawn by the incomparable glory and love of Christ, worldly fame and fortune naturally lose their luster. We often feel weary in the pursuit of worldly things because we mistake temporary glory for the greatest treasure. True freedom begins with recognizing the transcendent value of the Lord. When His love firmly grasps our hearts, present gains and losses can no longer shake our inner peace and conviction.
