“He would offer his son as God had directed him to do, and then trust God to raise him from the dead. This, says the writer to the Hebrews, was the solution his aching heart found sometime in the dark night, and he rose "early in the morning" to carry out the plan. It is beautiful to see that, while he erred as to God's method, he had correctly sensed the secret of His great heart.”
A.W. Tozer · The Pursuit of God, ch. 2 "The Blessedness of Possessing Nothing"

Reflection
Not every path in life leads to a bright future. Sometimes darkness can be disorienting, but Tozer's picture of Abraham reminds me that it was in the dark night that he resolved to trust God; he misjudged God's method, yet rightly sensed His heart. Romans 8:28 reminds me that even when things seem chaotic, God is weaving a beautiful plan. He doesn't always give me the answers I want, but he always leads me toward His perfect will. Trusting Him means obeying even when we don't understand.
