“The nature of this joy; "unspeakable and full of glory." Unspeakable in the kind of it; very different from worldly joys, and carnal delights; of a vastly more pure, sublime, and heavenly nature, being something supernatural, and truly divine, and so ineffably excellent ... Unspeakable also in degree; it pleasing God to give them this holy joy, with a liberal hand, and in large measure, in their state of persecution.”

John 16:22 You are sorrowful now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and your joy no one will take away from you.

Reflection

The joy of the world is like quicksand, fading with changing circumstances, but the joy God gives is rooted in Himself. Even in the midst of sorrow and suffering, I possess eternal comfort because of my union with Christ. The Lord's promise is true: when He returns, every tear will be wiped away, and joy will fill the heart. This joy lies not in the prosperity of this world, but in God's unchanging presence.
