“God himself is the great good which they are brought to the possession and enjoyment of by redemption. He is the highest good, and the sum of all that good which Christ purchased. God is the inheritance of the saints; he is the portion of their souls. God is their wealth and treasure, their food, their life, their dwelling-place, their ornament and diadem, and their everlasting honour and glory. They have none in heaven but God.”

Scripture

Psalm 73:25-26 "Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is no one on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

Reflection

If the human heart is not centered in God, it will constantly pursue creatures, yet remain empty. The psalmist declared, "Whom have I in heaven but you?" True religious feeling finds supreme joy in God himself, regarding Him as the strength of life and eternal blessing. Even if the body declines, if God dwells in the heart, the spirit remains satisfied. May we learn to abandon false reliance, rest our hearts in God, and find joy in Him alone.
