Daily Devotion
“Missionaries on a foreign field who work only for visible results are bound to be repeatedly disappointed. In the long years of pioneering, in the days of waiting and sowing, only the realization that one is fulfilling a duty and obeying the great Lord of the harvest can fill the heart with peace and bring full confidence in the ultimate harvest.”
Susanna Carson Rijnhart · With the Tibetans in Tent and Temple
Scripture
Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
Reflection
The Rijnharts sowed seeds in the Tibetan borderlands for three years and saw very little fruit. Yet she noted that only by obeying the Lord of the harvest can one have peace within. We often treat 'results' as proof of God's presence, and easily lose heart when we see no change. Paul reminds us: 'And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.' The timing is in God's hands; our duty is in our hands. Today, in what matter am I tempted to give up because I see no results?
