Daily Devotion
“Beware of the bad habit of looking at yourself and saying, "But I am so weak." That is not humility, you know. Humility has done with self. It is occupied with Christ; it is occupied with facts. I believe that it is dishonouring to God, to Christ, to be talking about ourselves at all. "Not I, but Christ."”
D. E. Hoste · D. E. Hoste, "The Grace of God," in Phyllis Thompson, D. E. Hoste: "A Prince with God" (London: China Inland Mission, 1947), Selected Writings, p. 203
Scripture
John 3:30 He shall increase, but I shall decrease.
Reflection
Hoste said that humility has done with self and is occupied with Christ. Reflecting on my ministry and life, am I building my own "Tower of Babel," or silently constructing God's temple? When John the Baptist said, "He shall increase, but I shall decrease," it was a joy of complete surrender. May I learn to hide behind the Lord, not stealing God's glory, willingly serving as a transparent window, allowing others to see only the beauty of Christ beyond myself.
