Daily Devotion
“Certainty is the mark of the commonsense life: gracious uncertainty is the mark of the spiritual life. To be certain of God means that we are uncertain in all our ways, we do not know what a day may bring forth. This is generally said with a sigh of sadness, it should be rather an expression of breathless expectation. We are uncertain of the next step, but we are certain of God.”
Oswald Chambers · My Utmost for His Highest, April 29, "The Graciousness of Uncertainty"
Scripture
Psalm 77:19 Your ways are in the sea, your paths in the great waters, and no one knows the traces of your feet.
Reflection
This passage reminds me that God's ways are often hidden in the depths we cannot see or predict. The fact that no one knows His footsteps does not mean He is not there, but rather that He is opening a path in the sea that we cannot perceive with our naked eyes. When circumstances are as turbulent as a great flood and the future as unpredictable as the deep sea, God still walks upon them, guiding us through the storms. Faith is not about seeing clearly what lies ahead, but about knowing that the Lord who leads us never fails.
