“The heart of the matter is saying we know we can’t be spiritually transformed by just focusing on the will. In one way or another, it is a common mistake to think transformation is all in the will. And it isn’t! It’s in the mind—how we think, what occupies our minds, and so forth. It’s in our feelings. It’s in our body.”
Dallas Willard · “A Conversation with Dallas Willard About Renovation of the Heart,” Renovaré Perspectives (c. 2003)
Scripture
Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Reflection
The rebuilding of the temple reminded me that spiritual growth is not something that happens overnight, but rather a continuous renewal project of God in my life. Many times, like the Israelites, I stopped working under external pressure or inward discouragement, trying to mend things on my own, forgetting that only the Holy Spirit can reshape my heart. Only when I shift from self-centeredness to Christ-centeredness can my broken life be rebuilt and become the dwelling place of God's glory.
