“Expecting Western missionaries to shoulder the responsibility of evangelizing this generation all by themselves is both practically impossible and biblically indefensible. The evangelization of the world is the task of the entire global church.”

Arthur Glasser · East Asia Millions

Scripture

Ephesians 4:16 From whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Reflection

In 1961, a decade after the China Inland Mission withdrew from China, Arthur Glasser candidly remarked that relying solely on Western missionaries to evangelize this generation was both unrealistic and unbiblical; the evangelization of the world is the task of the whole church globally. As Paul wrote, Christ's body grows as each part does its work. Mission is not just for a few professionals, but the duty of every member; a church that does not share in God's missionary heart cannot truly mature. Today, am I fulfilling my specific function within the body of Christ?
